Leona Rosalie Peppler was born on September 4, 1911 in Newark, New Jersey to Nelson H. Peppler, a construction engineer and Leona Coe Peppler. After attending public schools in Caldwell and Glen Ridge, New Jersey, she went to Mount Holyoke College between 1929-1933, graduating with a degree in religion and a minor in astronomy. She was briefly employed as a file clerk at Cum and Foster fire insurance agency and from 1933-1935 worked as a secretary with the Chase National Bank. She subsequently w...
